Chester Twp. NJ

5 beds | 4.1 baths | 3.12 Acres | MLS/ID#: 3543594

The Pond at Chester presents a gracious brick front Colonial with updates in this sought-after cul de sac neighborhood. An expansive 4,595 square-foot floor plan is enhanced by extensive  square footage in the sun-filled, walkout lower level. Lush and private, the 3.12 acre setting features professional landscaping, perennial gardens, open lawns and a decorative pond, all bordered by established trees with winter views of a nearby stream.

Double mahogany doors edged by sidelights and a transom open into an impressive two-story foyer designed with a chandelier, shadow box molding, dual coat closets and gleaming hardwood floors. A columned entry reveals the dining room lined in shadow box molding, a ceiling medallion, chair rail and crown molding. The formal living room opens to a library featuring a marble surround fireplace. Wonderful country views and pond views are captured in the window walls of a cathedral ceiling sun room, entered through French doors from the living room.

The two-story family room presents a floor-to-ceiling brick surround fireplace flanked by oversized windows. Wood floors, a French door to the deck and a wet bar are additional details. Open to the family room is the cook’s kitchen with white cabinetry, granite countertops, a center island with breakfast bar, and an eating area with views of the lush backyard.  Top-of-the-line appliances include a Wolf cooktop, paneled built-in Sub-Zero refrigerator and two KitchenAid wall ovens. Nearby, the mud room leads to an attached three-car garage. Completing this level is a powder room.

Upstairs, a spacious master suite offers a tray ceiling, sitting area and two walk-in closets. The luxuriously updated master bath has cathedral ceilings, a free standing tub, custom ceramic tile shower, ceramic tile flooring, skylight and chandelier. Three more spacious bedrooms feature wood floors, double closets and lighted ceiling fans. These bedrooms share two additional full baths. A well-appointed finished lower level contains large windows, dual sets of glass doors to the paver patio, an au pair suite, kitchenette, media room, recreation room, full bath, laundry room and ample storage.

A paver patio off the lower level and expansive deck adjoining the kitchen and sun room are perfect for entertaining.

Chester Township offers nearby access to well-respected schools, Interstates 78, 287 and Route 24 as well as the charming village of Chester’s extensive shopping and dining options.

About Chester Township

When talking about Chester in southwestern Morris County, you need to distinguish between the Borough of Chester, which is the shopping village, and Chester Township, the surrounding area which is decidedly more rural. At about 1½-square miles, the borough is located at the intersection of Routes 206 and 24 and offers quaint streetscapes lined with one-of-a-kind boutiques, antique shops and restaurants. Chester Township includes 29.8 square miles of farmland, newer residential developments and historic homes.

Incorporated in 1799, over 40%--or 12 square miles--of the township is preserved as open space. There are nature reserves, parks and deed-restricted agricultural property under the state Farmland Preservation Program, which buys the development rights while allowing the farmer to retain title and continue working the land.

The Borough of Chester was incorporated in 1930, and is a separate municipality that shares many services with the township such as a library, first aid squad, fire department, community pool, athletic programs, civic organizations and schools.
