4 beds | 2.1 baths | 4 Acres | MLS/ID#: 3516673

An inviting Colonial is beautifully sited on four acres within a desirable 20-home enclave in Chester Township. This lovingly cared for four bedroom, two-and-one-half bath home offers a private setting on a cul de sac street amid perennial gardens, flowering trees, sweeping lawns and a Pebble Tec saltwater pool in the lush backyard.  Spacious sun-filled rooms, wood flooring, a renovated and expanded kitchen, updated baths, California Closets, crown and dentil molding, Andersen windows and a whole house generator are highlights of this special Colonial.

A bright two-story entrance foyer with dentil molding and a wrought iron and glass chandelier is a welcoming introduction. The living room features a view-filled bay window and wood-burning brick surround fireplace. Nearby are a powder room and an office overlooking the backyard gardens.  A gracious formal dining room has bay window with views as well as a chandelier and dentil and chair rail moldings. The two-story family room presents a cathedral ceiling with painted beams, a Restoration Hardware chandelier, two skylights and wall of windows topped by a Palladian arched window, creating wonderful views of pool and manicured landscaping.

Renovated and expanded, the chef’s kitchen includes white oak wood flooring, a large eating area with bucolic views and a cozy sitting area. A Dacor range top and stainless-steel wall ovens are found in the impressive center island with granite countertop and breakfast bar seating, while a Sub-Zero refrigerator, stainless steel dishwasher and Kohler farm sink help streamline meal prep. Light cherry cabinetry with under cabinet lighting offers pot drawers, recycling bins and furniture-style flair including a built-in hutch and desk with cabinets. The adjacent mud room leads to the laundry room fitted with cherry cabinetry and a double California Closet. An attached garage provides easy entry to kitchen.

The second story has wood flooring, an open hallway with linen closet and private master suite. Entered by a set of double doors, the sunlit master bedroom contains large windows on two sides and two walk-in closets. A stunningly updated master bath presents tile floors, a jetted tub with tile surround, double wood vanity with granite countertops and under cabinet heaters and lights. There is an oversized tiled shower with frameless glass door and multiple shower heads.  Three more spacious bedrooms each offer California Closets. The main bath is updated with tile floor, a granite-topped wood vanity, built-in recessed shelving, and a tiled tub/shower enclosed by a seamless glass door. An expansive bonus room provides additional living space.

There is a recreation room in the finished portion of the lower level which has newer carpet. Storage and future living space are further options on this level. The two-car attached garage has a door to the lower level and a service door to outside. Updated systems include four zones of gas hot water baseboard heat, central air, a newer furnace and hot water heater.

The backyard is a warm weather delight highlighted by the heated saltwater pool in a newer Pebble Tec finish.  Lush flowering trees, bushes and perennial gardens adorn the pool area designed with an entertainment-friendly patio. A deck adjoining the kitchen eating area leads to a bluestone patio and the pool area.

Chester Township is known for its highly-rated schools, including Mendham High School--also known as West Morris Mendham High School--with an International Baccalaureate program. Major roads and interstates are proximal for commuters. Patriots Path, Hacklebarney State Park, Chubb Park and the Black Oak Golf Club offer recreation close to home. Conveniences in Chester include shopping centers and the charming village of Chester's picturesque stores and restaurants.

About Chester Township

When talking about Chester in southwestern Morris County, you need to distinguish between the Borough of Chester, which is the shopping village, and Chester Township, the surrounding area which is decidedly more rural. At about 1½-square miles, the borough is located at the intersection of Routes 206 and 24 and offers quaint streetscapes lined with one-of-a-kind boutiques, antique shops and restaurants. Chester Township includes 29.8 square miles of farmland, newer residential developments and historic homes.

Incorporated in 1799, over 40%--or 12 square miles--of the township is preserved as open space. There are nature reserves, parks and deed-restricted agricultural property under the state Farmland Preservation Program, which buys the development rights while allowing the farmer to retain title and continue working the land.

The Borough of Chester was incorporated in 1930, and is a separate municipality that shares many services with the township such as a library, first aid squad, fire department, community pool, athletic programs, civic organizations and schools.
